Southampton vs Fulham - 5 Reasons Why Saints Will Continue Wonder Run

Southampton have stunned football fans across the country and beyond as after 8 games, they sit sixth in the Premier League, just 4 points of the top spot. If the season were to end right now, Southampton would potentially finish in a European spot, as well as finishing above reigning champions Manchester United. In the past eight games, the Saints have quietly slipped under the radar, all the while taking points at Anfield and Old Trafford, and the way Southampton have been playing has earned the respect of football fans across the country.

If Southampton were to beat Fulham on Saturday, Saints fans would be waking up on Monday morning at least 5th in the league, with at least one of Chelsea or Manchester City dropping points. Seeing as how three years ago they were sat near the foot of the table in the 3rd tier of English football, it has been quite a remarkable turnaround from the South Coast club.

I am, admittedly, a Southampton fan. I've followed them through the great escapes of the late 90s, to the Cup Final in 2003, to relegation, to playoff heartache, to further relegation and finally administration. Most Saints fans feared for the club's future, when the late great Markus Liebherr took over the club and we have gone from strength to strength. When the consortium took over, they predicted Champions League football to come to Southampton within 5 years. Four years later, that may not be out of the question. Talk of Champions League have been spoken again by both players and manager, Mauricio Pochettino, in recent weeks, and while there is still another 31 games to go, Saints fans can begin to dream that Saint Markus's vision for the club may well be realised sooner than suspected, and with the form the Saints are currently on, there is a high chance this win run will continue past Saturday's evening clash with the Craven Cottage outfit, and beyond.
