Sunderland Director Of Football To Leave Within 24 Hours
The Mirror. The Italian has been under pressure all season as Sunderland are yet to climb out of the bottom three of the Premier League, and Di Fanti's transfers could partially be to blame. No less than 14 players were brought to Wearside in the summer, while Di Fanti and Angeloni were working along side former Head Coach Paolo Di Canio, and a vast majority of those players have failed to impress or at least break into the first team. And to top things off, there was speculation of a fall out between current Head Coach Gus Poyet and Di Fanti not long after the Uruguayan's arrival at The Stadium of Light. But the time has now come where Chairman Ellis Short thinks his time is up, after just ten months in the job. It is still uncertain whether the circumstances of the sale of South Korean international Ji Dong Won is the final nail in the coffin, or just a bad timed coincidence. The striker yesterday joined German side Augsburg on a deal until the end of the season. But Dortmund today announced they have signed the South Korean on a pre-contract, and the 22-year-old will move to them on July 1 in a four-year deal, which could question the handling of the sale of Ji by Di Fanti. The so called Italian revolution at Sunderland is certainly well and truly over now, but I'm sure there will be more in this story.
