UFC: 10 Reasons Ronda Rousey Is A Victim Of Her Own Success

Success breeds contempt for MMA's biggest star.

Lionsgate / Expendables 3 Movie PosterLionsgate / Expendables 3 Movie Poster"Rowdy" Ronda Rousey is a polarizing figure in MMA, perhaps the most polarizing champion in the UFC history. Is all the criticism really deserved however? Does this talented and dedicated athlete really deserve to be greeted with boos when all she's done wrong is become a winner? She is in many ways exactly what all MMA fighters should aspire to be like, a big fighter, a big personality. When it comes right down to it, the only thing Ronda Rousey is really guilty of is coming right into the organization and being an immediate success. Yes, she was awarded the UFC women's bantamweight championship without having won a fight - her Strikeforce belt carried over - but Jose Aldo was given the same treatment when he came in from the WEC acquisition. Yes, she's a brash trash talker, but so is Chael Sonnen, and fans have come to love him. So what more do you want? Really, if anything, Ronda Rousey is a victim of her own success more than anything. She has a lack of credible opponents to main event against, which isn't her fault. She is resented by the crowd for being a 'bitch' when really she's only a competitive spirit. Her fight style is too dominant and doesn't allow for good fights... again not her fault. Another problem for UFC is that Ronda's so far ahead of the other women that there's almost nobody left for her to face! Here we get into the reasons why Rousey has became MMA's most hated star, despite her burgeoning mass popularity.
