Andy Carroll has suffered yet another injury setback, which is set to keep him out of the West Ham United first team for a long time to come. The 26-year-old Geordie suffered a knee ligament tear in the 0-0 draw with Southampton on 11 February and is expected to miss the rest of the season as he requires surgery to fix the problem. Now in his third season with the Hammers, his lack of availability has seen him go from one of the most talented and talked about English strikers around to one of the most expensive and injury prone transfer flops since the turn of the millennium. His absences from the first team have even prompted co-owner David Sullivan to come out in the press and say that he has regrets over signing the 6ft 4in striker, particularly with the high fee that was paid to Liverpool for his services in the summer of 2013, following his initial season-long loan spell. West Ham's misfortune with Carroll has been masked slightly this season by the outstanding play of fellow strikers and recent summer signings Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia, who have both adapted to the demands of the Premier League better than anyone could have expected at the start of the season.
