17 Things Newcastle Fans Need To Know About Seydou Doumbia

Why is he known as The Rhinoceros?

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Seydou Doumbia on loan until the end of the season, subject to the player receiving the appropriate visa. The Ivory Coast international is United's fourth signing of a successful January transfer window - following Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet and Andros Townsend to St James' Park - and could join on a permanent deal in the summer for a fee of around £7 million. The 28-year-old, who scored an impressive 66 goals in 108 league games for CSKA Moscow, signed for Italian side Roma last January in a deal worth a reported £11.9 million. However, after making only 14 appearances for i Giallorossi, he was loaned back to Russia at the start of the 2015/16 season. Now, he'll be looking to spearhead a Magpies attack that has missed a number of gilt-edged opportunities over the festive period that has left them two points adrift in the Premier League relegation battle. Speaking to NUFC.co.uk about his move, Doumbia said: "I'm delighted to be a Newcastle United player. "I've already started to prepare. I've arrived and I'm ready to go. "It has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and now that dream has come true, so I'm absolutely delighted. "I am looking forward to helping the Club get some wins and climb the table." Seydou was registered after the midday deadline to be available for United's game against Everton on Wednesday. He's expected to make his debut at home to West Brom on Sunday.
