10 Adult Swim Infomercials Better Than Too Many Cooks

1. Broomshakalaka

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt2uIhAvQZ8 The perfect infomercial parody, period. There are few words to describe how dark and absurd this sketch gets, without even changing its set. It's quality writing from start to finish as the program again pushes the limits of what's actually ok to laugh at. It may not be the bloodiest infomercial, but it's by far the cruelest; Denny, a presenter prone to self-harm (played to perfection by the great Mike McCafferty) tries to sell a multipurpose broom while he slowly reveals his soul tearing, delusional motivation. Is it wrong to laugh at the thought of a little girl being beheaded? You decide. When Monty Python did their Undertaker sketch (the one about eating one's dead mother and throwing her up in the grave) most people groaned in disgust. Some still do, while others consider it a classic moment of black humor. Most Adult Swim programs contain considerable bits of extreme dark comedy, thus making sure that the audience always gets a cathartic sanity check. Hopefully, it's not a big spoiler to read that, despite it's tormenting nature, the end of Broomshakalaka will melt your heart. And let's face it, that broom is kinda cool. Sold! Adrian Serban lives in Bucharest, Romania where he has studied screenwriting and film criticism. But it's not all about artsy European dramas for him, as he's also a fan of horrors, kung-fu flicks and sci-fi films of all eras. Monty Python and Doctor Who are two British institutions that changed his life for the better. Or so he thinks.
