10 Best Tales From The Crypt Episodes

8. Dead Right [Season 2, Episode 1]

Tales From The Crypt
HBO

The second season kicked off with this instalment featuring Demi Moore, as a gold-digger who finds a fortune teller's predictions don't always turn out the way you'd want them to.

Moore's Cathy Marno is told that she will marry a "large man" who will inherit a great deal of money and then die. In light of an earlier prediction proving true, Cathy believes she may have met the man in the form of Jeffrey Tambor's morbidly obese Charlie, whom she agrees to marry even though he repulses her.

Just months away from hitting mega-stardom with box office smash Ghost, Demi Moore is perfect as the sassy, streetwise Cathy. As Charlie, a fat-suited Jeffrey Tambor is simply too grotesque and creepily desperate to earn much sympathy, although that's probably the point, given how the episode ends.

As drastically as Charlie outweighs Cathy, the comedy in this episode outweighs the horror. But that's not necessarily a bad thing when it provides fun sequences such as Cathy's slapstick fantasies of Charlie's demise, and a gross-out montage set to Fred Astaire's "Cheek To Cheek".

Fun fact: the story is rumoured to have been based on true events.
