10 Classic Doctor Who Monsters That Should Return

Big bads from the past need their time in the modern sun!

There are few shows that have run as long as Doctor Who and even fewer with a villain list quite as long. The programme started fascinating and scaring viewers alike all the way back in 1963 and despite its long hiatus after 1989, the new updated version of the show returned in 2005 to do the same. During those first 26 years fans were treated to a whole host of villains and stories that now don€™t stand the test of time. Given the low production values and the budget constraints the show was under at the time, it was often hard for the visual representation to live up to the imagination that had thought them up. Ever since the return of Doctor Who back in 2005, many of those classic villains have been brought back and re-invented for the modern era. Already we have been treated to the Daleks, Cybermen, Zygons, The Master and even the Time Lords in their new modern threads and interpretations. Despite that, there are still a whole host of characters from the classic Doctor Who that are yet to be used in the new age of the show. However, Steven Moffat is a well known classic Who lover and has striven to bring back much of the original designs from when he watched the show as a child, including changing the opening sequences, the design of the Tardis and even changing the Doctor to an older actor again. He has also been keen to bring back classic villains in the modern setting, with the Zygons recently appearing in the 50th anniversary episode. With that in mind, it seems a good time to take a look at the list of classic monsters that deserve to be re-introduced and given the re-design they deserve. Bear in mind, we think some of these characters should be brought back because their design would excel in the modern era, while others deserve a proper story because they were underused when they first turned out, however there are naturally many that should return and didn€™t make the list, so feel free to share your opinions in the comments.
