10 Comic Book Characters Who Deserve Their Own TV Shows

9. The Punisher

punisher After his family is murdered, Frank Castle becomes obsessed with vengeance, taking it upon himself to rid the world of criminals, especially if it means getting his hands dirty. He has taken up the moniker of The Punisher, striking fear into the hearts of criminals with a fearsome white skull on his chest, and a wide array of weapons in his hands. Since his debut within the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #129 in 1974, The Punisher has enjoyed a devoted fanbase and many successful comic book runs. He's also been the focus of three feature films, in 1989, 2004, and 2008. All three were critical and financial flops, and though there was talk of a TV show on FOX, that ended up going nowhere and the rights to the character have since reverted back to Marvel Studios. The prospect of a Punisher television show seems unlikely now that Marvel is owned by Disney. Needless to say, a vigilante with an obsession for murdering criminals and mob bosses doesn't sound like something the family-friendly giant would be interested in. If they ever do decide to go forward with it, though, the show could be a huge hit. Television is a better medium for the character than film, and in a weekly series on a channel like Showtime, HBO, or even AMC, the Punisher could finally be met with some live action success. As a gritty crime drama with a broken, but unwaveringly dedicated man at its center, the show could explore the aspects of Frank Castle's character that we haven't yet had the opportunity to see on screen.
