10 Reasons Doctor Who Is Better Than Star Wars

6. Doctor Who Is Actually More Mature Than Star Wars

It's ironic for what was ostensibly a kids show for much of its run, but Doctor Who is actually far more mature in its outlook than many "grown-up" programmes and films, like Star Wars, claim to be. Doctor Who is adult enough to embrace silliness - its creators know real life is frequently absurd and it's OK not to be po-faced all the time. On the other end of the scale, Star Wars takes itself seriously. It's engaged in epic-scale storytelling and, apart from unfunny antics with a flying R2-D2, there's no room to throw anything as silly as ordinary reality into the mix. Can you imagine Luke Skywalker coping with a newspaper superhero and Rapunzel whilst being trapped in a realm where fiction is reality? No, only Doctor Who is confident enough of its own maturity to attempt something as childish as that - it knows it doesn't have to try and act cool all the time.
