10 Things HBO Wants You To Forget About Game Of Thrones

Because killing a US President is standard in Westeros.

You're always gambling when you emphatically push a show which covers attempted child murder, gratuitous incest, frequent rape, blood, guts and gore...in the very first episode. HBO probably didn't know exactly what they'd let themselves in for, but the man who green-lighted Thrones will no doubt be wading in a mound of cash with a smug grin permanently attached to his face. The success of the show is astronomical, and while Lord of the Rings may sound like a lazy comparison, Thrones is to TV, what Peter Jackson's fantasy epic is to the film industry. Thrones is a showcase of how a gorgeous cinematic world can be translated to the small screen, and proves that audiences DO enjoy deep-rooted, medieval, political manoeuvring as a way to relax. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are safe hands that HBO can entrust the show to, and each season sweeps up more legions of fans, and in turn, more zeroes on the end of their bank account. But while HBO wants you to spend every waking minute of your life poring over every scene, discussing the story, and buying their replica swords, there are moments they don't want you to remember. Thrones is a controversy magnet, and HBO's main role is now just to ensure they keep the show balancing on the line of what can actually be shown on television, rather than jumping beyond it. Whether it be unusual set appearances, re-casting actors, forgotten storylines, re-casting actors or re-casting actors, HBO has plenty of things it wants you to forget...
