10 TV Shows That Were Spoiled By Romantic Couples

2. The Flash - Barry Allen And Iris West

It's well-established that Barry Allen (The Flash) and Iris West get married in the comic books. In the most recent television adaptation, Barry had been taken in as a child and raised together with Iris by her father. And it's a really good backstory, but it also essentially makes Barry and Iris brother and sister.

Despite flimsy attempts to play this off on the show, Iris' father has consistently referred to Barry as his son and Barry in turn has often called him his dad, while Iris' brother has identified Barry as his, you probably guessed it, brother. The awkwardness is obvious.

There's also the distinct lack of romantic chemistry between Grant Gustin and Candice Patton, despite both of them playing their parts very well. Romantic scenes between the two tend to feel so forced that it can make you want to grit your teeth.

Another side effect of this relationship is a level of hostility from certain fans. Yes, elephant in the room, there's a change in Iris' ethnicity from the source material. This has led to many cases of fans of the show who don't care for the relationship, usually preferring Barry to be with Caitlin Snow (Killer Frost), to be unjustly labeled as racists, no matter how legitimate their concerns may be.

One can't help but wonder if it's fear of this kind of animosity that has influenced the writers from moving on from this failing storyline. If so, it's time to summon some courage.

I like to think I'm a clever person, but apparently I'm not clever enough to come up with a witty biography.
