20 Best South Park Episodes Ever

"Now I'm in the closet."

Believe it or not, Matt Stone and Trey Parker's gloriously offensive animation is now two decades old! From its humble origins as the up-and-coming show everyone's parents hated through to becoming a cornerstone of pop-culture and social satire, it's fair to say that South Park has grown into a beast nobody could've ever imagined.

With the start of the twentieth season, what better time to sift through the show's 250+ episodes and relive its greatest moments? From pin-sharp satire through to iconic parodies, astonishing use of fecal matter and surely one of the darkest TV episodes in animation history (you know which one), South Park has gone from strength to strength by frequently provoking society and ensuring everyone is fair game for mockery.

While there's sure to be plenty of debate about what constitutes a classic and everyone of course has their own beloved favourites, here are the 20 greatest South Park episodes...

20. Awesom-O (Season 8, Episode 5)

Cartman disguises himself as a robot named Awesom-O to troll Butters and learn his deepest secrets, but it backfires when Cartman ends up having to administer suppositories up Butters' a** and is molested by a hotshot Hollywood producer.

Nothing's better in this sure-fire classic, however, than the US government's adversarial response to Awesom-O, kidnapping him and expressing surprise when the "robot" professes it's human (believing its AI to have become self-aware).

Episodes like this prove why season 8 is arguably the show's peak, with both a delicious premise and hysterical execution. Butters and Cartman are among the show's best pairings when the writing is on-point, and helped make this one an all-time great.

Best Moment: Awesom-O pitches terrible Adam Sandler movies to Hollywood, including one where he falls in love with a golden retriever.
