5 Terrible TV Dads

There are a lot of great dads on TV. Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead would clearly die for his son; Homer Simpson, despite being dim witted and lazy, has genuinely heartbreaking moments with his children; Burt Hummel on Glee did the fricken Single Ladies dance for Kurt; Phil Dunphy from Modern Family has the sweetest relationship with his kids... hell, even Dads that you'd think would be terrible are often pretty terrific. Walter White might cook meth and occasionally put his families lives in mortal danger, but he is shown to genuinely care for his children (although he seems to love Pinkman a little bit more than Walt Jr... just saying). Even mass murdering, psychopath Dexter is a pretty good dad, all things considered. That said, TV shows often like to make characters fathers appear a little cruel in order to give the protagonist, or a supporting character an obstacle to rise above. This list celebrates, or more accurately identifies what I consider to be some of the worst dads in TV history. Some of these choices are obviously evil, some are played for laughs, but some seem to go unnoticed and are in fact often celebrated as being great fathers, but when you look at the evidence are actually pretty shockingly terrible. Let's just put it this way, none of these Dads deserve to be getting a "World's Greatest Dad" mug for their birthdays...

I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
