13. Best - Marseille

Always Sunny In Philadelphia Series 11
Netflix

According to CEO Reed Hastings, locally produced, globally distributed content is the future of Netflix.

Introducing Marseille, a brand new political thriller starring the mon gros Gerard Depardieu as the long-term mayor of Marseille, fending off competition from a former protégé (what's the English word for that?), who is much younger and slimmer than himself.

It's the first original drama to be made for the European market and feels very much like a French House of Cards - une Maison de Croissants, if you prefer.

Whilst all eight episodes will premiere on Netflix, French national broadcaster TF1 will also screen the first two, proving that if you can't swim against the tide, go with it.

Created by novelist Dan Franck, Marseille storms onto Netflix on May 4th, complete with subtitles to improve your multi-tasking.
