8 Things Community Season 6 Has To Do‏

Sic transit gloria mundi. E pluribus anus.

NBCNBCWe made it, our fellow Human Beings. One step closer to the dream of #sixseasonsandamovie. After perhaps its most consistently strong season so far €“ following perhaps its most consistently terrible €“ NBC finally pulled the plug on weirdo outsider (yet hilarious) sitcom Community. It seemed that was it for the former study group, who had succeeded in their activities as the Committee To Save Greendale within the show, yet failed to maintain their beloved, rickety old community college in the schedules. Community had, arguably, been running on borrowed time ever since it started. That's certainly the opinion of co-creator and showrunner Dan Harmon. What had begun with the usual sitcom high concept of a disgraced lawyer (Jeff Winger, played with narcissistic brilliance by Joel McHale) forced to return to college so that can legitimately pass the bar, soon became something much more. The longer he stayed there, though, the further Jeff and his friends €“ ostensibly a Spanish study group €“ got further and further away from that original premise. Instead the show became a celebration of broken people, and the way that...well, not that they fix each other, but how they support each other. Which, coated in a generous layer of insane and obscure genre parodies, paintballs and drag, made it possibly the greatest network sitcom of our age. And also way too outside the box to achieve the mainstream popularity NBC hoped for, which meant they finally pulled the plug once Harmon €“ fired after the series' third go around €“ had returned for the fifth season to wrap things up. The promise, though, had always been €œSix Season And A Movie€. What began as a joke at the expense of cancelled superhero show The Cape (which barely lasted one season, also on NBC) became the rallying cry of Community's devoted fans, who watched with bated breath as the show was shopped around to online channels like Hulu. At the eleventh hour, it's Yahoo who have surprisingly picked the show up for a sixth €“ possibly final? €“ season, as part of their burgeoning original programming wing, looking to compete with the likes of Amazon and Netflix. And if they're gonna compete, their first show is gonna need to bring the big guns €“ here are eight things we think the sixth season of Community will need to do.
