Arrow Season 3: 10 Things That Must Happen

9. Laurel Does Not Become The Canary

In the Season Two finale, Sara hands her Canary jacket to Laurel in a symbolic passing of the torch and leaves Starling City to rejoin the League of Assassins. While the writers were obviously aiming for as touching a moment as possible, viewers aren€™t buying it. Oliver training Laurel to be the next Canary could be an interesting story but it isn€™t entirely believable. Although super-powered themes have become a part of the Arrow universe, realism is still a strong element and Laurel becoming the Canary with very little experience would certainly push that boundary. It is clear that Laurel can handle herself, having tangled with a few thugs before, but there is a huge difference between punching a lowlife in the face and tangling with someone like Slade Wilson €“ her kidnapping portfolio should be evident to this. The most training Laurel has is self-defence while Oliver and Sara have gone through extensive training, which seemed like borderline torture in some areas. If The Arrow has to have a sidekick, it should be Roy Harper. There€™s no need for Laurel to replace a character that worked so well to begin with. Laurel can have a more rightful place in the DA€™s office, working alongside The Arrow €“ feeding him cases while he brings her criminals to prosecute. Hopefully, Sara will return to Starling in Season Three, as her lack of presence will certainly be felt in Team Arrow.
