Being Human Series Five: 5 Reasons To Be Excited

4. Phil Davis

Being Human Phil Davis

If you live in the UK, you've probably heard of Phil Davis. Most famous for his role in Quadrophenia, Davis has also starred in cult favourites Doctor Who, Sherlock and Merlin, so he's probably well used to cult TV now. I've been following Davis' work ever since he appeared in Merlin, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover that Phil Davis would appear in every episode of series five as decrepit wheel-chair bound pensioner Captain Hatch. Davis is well-known for his villains, so it probably won't come as a surprise that Davis plays the Big Bad of the series. Stuck in the rubbish Barry Grand seaside hotel, Hatch has a stroke of luck when Hal and Tom come to work at the hotel, and he begins to work towards turning them against each other. Series three and four didn't have a proper, regular villain like Herrick or Kemp (even though the villains in series three and four were arguably better), so it's nice to see a proper Big Bad who will be in every episode - especially a Big Bad played by Phil Davis. Oh - and I won't spoil, but let's just say that Captain Hatch is a little more powerful than you might think...

British writerer who enjoys comic-book movies, Doctor Who and games I'm too incompetent to play. And a lot of other things.
