Community: 5 Reasons To Be Excited For Season 5

community*Note: Article contains numerous spoilers* So it's actually happened. Community - against all odds - has officially been renewed for a fifth season. Since its inception, it has endured an ever-shrinking audience, delays, hiatuses, clashes between showrunner and a certain *cough cough Chevy Chase cough* actor, and eventually a complete change out of executive producers and showrunners. And while this resulted in an uneven and fairly mediocre fourth season, we still have reason to be happy that this under-appreciated sitcom has gotten another lease on life. Why?

5. The New Show Runners Have Settled In

G On the right you see the former Community showrunner, Dan Harmon, the visionary who led Community to its former greatness. On the left you see David Guarascio and Moses Port, who led Community to its current mediocrity. However, you have to bear in mind that they had to fill some pretty big shoes. Most Community fans held up Dan Harmon as a genius who could do no wrong, and you must admit he managed to inspire one of the most rabid fan bases in the world. So when Port and Guarascio took over, they had to strike a balance between pleasing the super hardcore fans, while also making the show their own. They failed. I'll just come right out and say it, they failed. While some of the episodes were funny, it just felt like watching your favorite band playing their most famous songs, but who just had no heart for it. The episodes didn't have the same energy, and frequently just repeated jokes for the sake of repeating jokes, almost like saying "Hey, this show is still the same! Right?" But you know what? Now they're more experienced! Maybe now that they've got one semi-successful season under their belts, they'll be able to break away from trying to mirror Dan Harmon every step of the way, and instead make the show their own.
