It struck me when putting together my previous list (Breaking Bad: 6 Possible Fates for Walter White), how similar the two shows had become in their final runs, both shows ending next year in 2013- that is, of course, if the Mayans are wrong. Both shows started off very differently with entirely different concepts, but now, in their final two seasons (Breaking Bad’s one season cut in half) it has pretty much come down to a game of cat and mouse with both our wonderful anti-heroes. The thing is though, with tragic tales such as these, and anti-heroes who have committed terrible crimes, TV shows very rarely show characters getting away with everything. Usually, shows give off the message, one way or another, that crime doesn’t pay, and unfortunately for both Walter White and Dexter Morgan, this means that things unfortunately will very soon stop going their way.
Since the very beginning, and specially all throughout Dexter’s best season in season 2 we have been wondering how on earth Dexter will be able to get away with his crimes and continue to go unnoticed despite working for the very people who could very well stop him, dead or alive. With both Walter and Dexter, they probably should have considered not keeping their enemies so close, as this has so far been both of the characters downfalls- though many times it has proved advantageous to Dexter’s “dark passenger” and having a brother-in-law working for the DEA has come in handy many times for Walter.
The thing is though, “poor” Dexter is probably not going to get away with things for much longer, especially considering his sister Deb is Lieutenant and really should have reported her brother already when she discovered his terrible crimes. Will Dexter survive? Will Dexter go to jail? Will one of his closest friends do the deed? This list explores the eight most likely outcomes for Dexter by the shows end. Although I do not read the book series, I am guessing from the little I do know about them that by now the television series has swerved in a completely separate direction… but if not, please forgive me. I am assuming most of us who watch the show don’t read the books, so if there is an answer, we are all in the dark anyway.

Good list. And yeah, the TV series has differed wildly from the books, and its definitely for the best. I also strongly believe that the Deb/Dex love story was only used in season 6 as a device to set up Deb being infatuated with Dexter and a way to send her to the church, so that it would even more devastating to see Perfect Dexter stab a dude right in front of her. They’ve barely mentioned it in S7, so it’s safe to say the Deb loves Dex story is done.
I reckon that Dexter will kill the big mobster guy, even though Debra wants to take him in. LaGuerta will find out that Dexter is a serial killer and that Debra is on on it and they will both have to flee.
Season 8, Miami Metro and the FBI chase Dexter. LaGuerta tries to arrest Deb, but Dexter kills her, escapes to another country and then kills people there. Debra takes care of Harrison. Masuka and Batista are shocked. Quinn, not so much. Debra become captain. Batista becomes Lieutenant. And they all live happily ever after.
Thanks. I think the Deb/Dexter story love story was probably used as a way to make Debra more forgiving of Dexter when she finds out he is a serial killer. I am not 100% sure that it is completely over, but it was highly unpopular and the writers would be silly to bring it back.
As for your predictions, I think that your second paragraph could very well happen. I am not too sure that Dexter will kill LaGuerta… seems out of character but it is possible. I think, unfortunately for Deb, it would be unrealistic now if she were to keep her job considering she is helping and aiding a serial killer but as this is TV who knows. I very much doubt that they will all live happily ever after however.
Thanks again for reading.
I think Dex is gonna get caught (maybe by laguerta), and is gonna find himself in prison. We are gonna see some cool episodes of him fighting off screwed up prisoners (maybe even in a psycho prison/ward). And Deb is gonna end up freeing Dexter, either by getting rid of evidence against him, framing someone else (like the babysitter’s boyfriend), or literally killing off laguerta… dexter style.
I don’t think Deb will kill anyone or even go as far as to frame someone else… but she could get rid of evidence. Thanks for reading… it is probably the most likely fate that he will end up somehow in prison.
Thanks again.
Awesome list the only ones I thought of were dexter being killed, killing himself or being arrested.
I do hope maria does figure out dexter is bay harbor by end of season as for the comment on terrible villians Trinity was pretty awesome :)
Really, I was really disappointed with Trinity personally. My favorite season was season two when there really was no villain. Other than that, I honestly thought Johnny Lee Miller in Season 5 was alright, but that is about it. Still, I love the show and every villain has at least been watchable… but not to the same iconic level as a Buffy villain for example.
Ah. But you forget about #9. The book series has developed in a much different way than that of the television series. Debs knew from Book 1 that he was a serial killer, and has a love/hate relationship with the concept, giving into the belief their father was right in how he handled Dexter. In Book 1, Dexter kills LaGuarta but Doakes survives a serial killer. Whose to say this won’t simply be reversed for the television series?
Perhaps this is where the creator and the writers merge ideas to bring the series back together so the book series may continue…
Interesting. Obviously I did not know this. No way though is Deb going to agree with her fathers methods. In this respect she must be an entirely different character.
I honestly also think Dexter is not really at the point where he would kill LaGuarta for knowing about him. I think he would rather go to jail. THAT SAID… I can see him killing LaGuarta if she starts preying on him like Doakes did and if he is all pent up from having not killed people in a while… but when and if he does, he will no longer be sympathetic and the audience will root for him to be either killed or stopped.
I think it is far more likely that LaGuerta will arrest him at the end of this season… but in all honesty I don’t really have a clue.
Thanks for reading and the reply. Appreciated.
