Doctor Who: 5 Things We Learned From "The Night Of The Doctor"

1. The TV Anniversary Will Just Be Icing On The Cake

Doctor Who 50th Doctors Kate Stewart At least for me and many old series fans. It's going to be nice to see the Tenth Doctor back. To an extent, it might even be nice to see Rose. I look forward to the Zygons, less so to the Daleks. It would be nice to have a great, big, epic story that ties together everything we've seen over the last fifty years and puts a nice ribbon on it. It would be nice to have those things, but isn't required. You see, since the new series returned, myself and many others have been craving a real, true, tie-in with the old series. We got some of that with "Time Crash" and "School Reunion". We had a little moment where the Doctor finds out that the Brigadier is dead. But what we wanted, deep down, was to see a proper end to the Eighth Doctor; something that would be a proper end to an important part of the series' history. Like I said, I would have preferred a full-on episode, but six+ minutes of goodness, that finally shows us the fate the Doctor who carried the torch through much of the Wilderness Years, well...that's pretty damn great. At this point, even if the anniversary special sucks, I won't mind too much. I, and many other fans, got what we wanted, and that's good enough.
