The Ninth Doctor tends to be overshadowed quite a bit. The focus tends to be more on his uber-popular successors, who still inspire huge devotion from their fanbase even having left the show, or on the sheer weight of the classic series. Eccleston also hasn't done a lot to endear himself to long-term watchers since leaving, distancing himself from the show in interviews. While recently he's spoken warmly of his role as the Doctor, he left under a cloud and his attitude since has left a bad taste in the mouth of some fans. However, cast your mind back to 2005. March 25th, specifically, the day before the revived series was broadcast. There was a lot of speculation about the new series. What would it look like, what tone would it take and, most crucially, would it even work? Of course it did and a huge part of that was down to the Ninth Doctor. Christopher Eccleston put in a fantastic performance to bring the character to a new audience - work that David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi have since built on to make the show the international phenomenon it is today. With Eccleston celebrating his 51st birthday this week, it's worth remembering just how good a Doctor he was. He may have only been in the TARDIS for one series but it short and very sweet. With that in mind, here are 10 of his best moments.
