Game Of Thrones Season 7 Reactions: What "Dragonstone" Really Means

10. The Freys Are No More

After the grisly end of Walder Frey in season 6, it was somewhat surprising to see him return in Dragonstone, addressing what remained of his family. It was even more surprising to see him transformed into a softer, more kindly character - or at least until it quickly dawned that this was not the real Walder Frey.

In concealing herself as the patriarch and poisoning the entire family, Arya single-handedly removed a powerful player in the Great Game and robbed Cersei of a useful (if somewhat volatile ally). The repercussions of that could be huge.

On reflection, Arya probably could have done with their numbers to mount an attack on the Lannisters, but she is a passionate creature and that sort of tactical forward-thinking simply wouldn't occur to her ahead of killing them all in close quarters. Even though it would have been fun to watch her send the Freys into battle against their superior allies, in the hope of weakening both. That just wouldn't have been clean enough.

Now, we get to the point of Cersei needing a new ally to bolster her forces far quicker, which ultimately serves the story (and Euron Greyjoy) better, and that alliance will presumably come back to bite her in the future. Or at least it looks like that's the way it's headed.
