After almost a year-and-a-half-long hiatus, FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is set to return soon for its unprecedented 13th season. Featuring the return of the gang, a group of 5 narcissistic, self-centred and morally ambiguous ‘friends’ who try (and fail) to run Paddy’s Irish Pub, it looks set to be one of the best so far.

Following season 12’s conclusion there are certainly plenty of questions ready to be answered during this season, Dennis looked set to leave the gang in order to move to North Dakota to be with his child and Charlie and The Waitress finally entering into a relationship (along with the possibility of her being pregnant), so everything looked set to change.

Not to mention the long-awaited-but-totally-unsurprising reveal of Mac’s sexuality, whose character development looks set to be one of the most intriguing aspects of this new season.

After the release of the poster and trailers for It’s Always Sunny’s latest season had a distinct horror theme to them, it’ll be exciting to see how this relates to the events of this season and whether there is the possibility for a long-awaited feature length Halloween episode.

So with the return of familiar faces looking imminent, along with the possibility of a new face to revolutionise Paddy’s, it’s time to get excited for It’s Always Sunny’s 13th season.

7. Feature Length Halloween Episode?

One of It’s Always Sunny’s best-loved episodes is its season 6 Christmas special ‘A Very Sunny Christmas’. This episode, at 43 minutes long, was almost twice the length of a regular episode and the extended plot allowed for a great story to be told.

It’s Always Sunny has dabbled in the horror genre before, specifically in season 8’s ‘The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Massacre’ which was well received both by audiences and critics alike and clearly demonstrated the show’s ability to subvert the usual sitcom formula. It also showed how well they can parody many classic horror tropes, something which many fans would love to see more of.

With the season 13’s marketing campaign revolving around horror and one of the episodes set to be aired around Halloween, the opportunity is there for a horror-themed extended episode.
