6. A Bigger Budget

Something that has become progressively more noticeable throughout the seasons of It’s Always Sunny is its increasingly large budget. This was especially apparent during season 12. The extensive musical premiere and the episode set entirely in the water park would have been almost unthinkable in the show’s earlier seasons, which were almost exclusively set in either Paddy’s or one of the gang’s apartments.

Following the show’s pilot allegedly being shot for virtually nothing, according to the show’s executive producer and star Charlie Day, the first few series were filmed on a budget of around $455,000 per-episode which is a fraction of its more recent budget estimates of around $2 million per-episode.

Although not the most important part of It’s Always Sunny’s appeal, this increased budget only positively impacts upon the show and allows it to set up even more bizarre and hilarious situations for the gang to find themselves in.
