Marvel's Runaways Premiere: 7 Ups & 1 Down From The First Three Episodes

6. The Tone

If Spider-Man: Homecoming is anything to go by, Marvel appears to be rather comfortable with some of their projects having a teenage tone and plots based around adolescent issues.

Given the source material for Runaways, it was easily the best possible property to continue this trend. And between the young actors, the high school/urban setting, and the main conflict that involves the clashing of generations, the show has absolutely accomplished this so far.

Plus, whereas Spider-Man was meant to be more family-friendly and humorously outlandish, Runaways has a slightly more mature edge to its high school vibe. It does a better job at more accurately portraying how American teenagers behave and what they talk about.

In other words, think of Spider-Man: Homecoming as being Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Runaways being more along the lines of The Breakfast Club.
