Marvel's The Punisher: 31 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

29. Lewis & Clay WIlson

Lewis Wilson is an invention for the show, but he definitely draws on cultural reference points. In essence, he's a Travis Bickle clone, driving a taxi, shouting at mirrors, losing the plot and going on a violent rampage and trying to change society... Even Curtis seems aware of the likeness between the characters.

He also seems to be named in reference to Tom Waits' Hell Broke Luce (which is played in the show when Frank attacks Lance and his criminal pals to save Donny), which was written about Jeffrey Lucey. He was an Iraq War veteran who suffered severe PTSD, repeated hallucinations, violence and who killed himself.

Lewis actually almost kills himself too, but then decides to take down society instead.

Incidentally, his father Clay Wilson shares the name of Marvel character Force, which may be an accident, but these things rarely are.
