Curtis Hoyle - who runs the support group for vets that Frank partly attends - is taken out of the comics, where he was also a veteran alongside Frank. In the comics he actually went on to become villain The Dragon.

He debuted in The Punisher (Vol. 2) #1-#2, as a private military contractor who recognizes Frank when he tries to infiltrate the crime business he works for. He tries to lure Frank into a trap but it backfires badly.

Having the PTSD subplot is also a big reference back to The Punisher's comic book past: his Vietnam experience was used as a framework to discuss Frank's violent personality in the comics and to speak to the wider issue of PTSD, which is particularly pertinent now in the wake of Middle Eastern conflict.
