Ranking The Doctor Who Series Finales From Worst To Best

7. Dark Water & Death In Heaven (Series 8)

First broadcast: Saturday 1st November 2014 & Saturday 8th November 2014 The Twelfth Doctor's dramatic debut, Deep Breath, set the precedent for his upcoming adventures but nothing quite prepared Doctor Who fans for the game-changing nature of his first finale. The sporadic reappearances of Michelle Gomez as Missy throughout the preceding episodes had succeeded in sending the show's fandom into a speculative frenzy and the cat was well and truly let out of the bag when she was spectacularly revealed as the first female incarnation of the Master. Meow! Even if you saw it coming, you still needed to lift your jaw off the floor. If that wasn't enough, Clara's beau, Danny Pink, had just been killed in a tragic road accident (or had he...?) and the renegade Time Lady was using the corpses of planet Earth to build her very own army of Cybermen... which she then gave to the Doctor as a belated birthday present. Did she mention, bananas?! Throw the return of fan favourites Kate Stewart and Osgood - R.I.P - into the mix and a unique homage to the Brigadier and you've got yourself a brilliant adventure which becomes more enjoyable every time you watch it. A finale that set up more storylines than it ultimately resolved, but the reign of Missy has only just begun...
