The Simpsons Season 29: 10 Excellent Things You Need To Know

3. The Return Of Nelson And Lisa

The Simpsons Season 29
Fox

For Simpsons viewers who hoped for more from the short-lived romance between the bully and the bookworm, the wait is over. Nelson goes up against some competition in their next chapter and it won't come in the form of nerdy Milhouse.

Ed Sheeran stars as the talented musician Brendan, Nelson's opponent for Lisa's affections, in a La La Land-inspired episode. While Lisa resists the attraction in their initial meetings, she's drawn to Brendan as the storyline plays out. Nelson won't be outdone by the newbie and performs an altered Save the Last Dance for Me to impress Lisa.

Nelson's behavior in season twenty-nine's Haw-Haw Land is a far cry from his actions in their first romantic plot. During Lisa's Date with Destiny, Lisa develops a crush on the blue-vested delinquent. Nelson enjoys the kissing part of their dates but bends to peer pressure when his friends convince him to vandalize Skinner's home. Nelson and Lisa dissolve their relationship but plenty of things remain unsaid. With Brendan as a formidable adversary, Nelson isn't holding back in his second shot to win Lisa's heart.

Curious Milhouse admirers may be wondering if he shows up in the love triangle-centered episode. He appears when Lisa meets Brendan at the beginning but he's brushed aside in typical Milhouse fashion. It's obvious a quadrangle isn't on the horizon but it will be interesting to see where Haw-Haw Land leaves Nelson and Lisa.

The tune-packed sequel to Nelson and Lisa gives what could've been a one-note relationship an exciting new dimension.
