The Episode: Bury Me Here
How It Happened: During the supply drop with the Saviors, it was discovered that the Kingdom's cantaloupe delivery had come up one short. Unbeknownst to everyone at the time, it was all part of Richard's plan to push the Saviors into taking action to punish one of them for it, with Richard ready to sacrifice himself so that the Kingdom would have a reason to be motivated to head into war. Instead, Jared shot Benjamin to Richard's horror, and though the group was able to get the kid to Carol's house to treat his wound, he bled out and died.
Why It's On This List: The death of Benjamin served as the spark in getting Morgan back in the game, as it were. The two had grown close over the season, and his death caused Morgan to slip back into the mindset from his crazy days. Morgan's discovery that Richard was to blame helped push him even further away from his "all life is precious" mantra, and whatever happens next for Morgan, Benjamin's death will undoubtedly haunt him along the way.
