The Episode: Hostiles and Calamities

How It Happened: After Sherry managed to escape the Savior compound, Dwight was tasked with hunting her down. With Negan questioning Dwight's loyalty - thanks to Daryl's escape, too - Dwight complied, only to find out that Sherry was long gone. To cover himself, Dwight instead framed Dr. Carson as the one who helped Sherry and Daryl, and though an intimidated Carson confessed to it to save himself from getting the iron, Negan proceeded to throw him into the furnace for everyone present to see.

Why It's On This List: Losing Dr. Carson didn't matter too much, as we hadn't gotten to know him too well, but his death served to push three things: One, that Dwight truly had grown cold as ice under Negan's control, willing to sacrifice someone he had no problem with just to save himself; two, to scare Eugene into absolute submission, as Negan made it a point to let Eugene know he was watching him before killing him; and three, to remove Dr. Carson's brother from the Hilltop, robbing the community - and a pregnant Maggie - of their own healthcare provider.
