True Detective Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Time is still a flat circle...

True Detective was one of the biggest new hits of 2014, wowing audiences and critics alike, all while setting the internet ablaze with fan-theories. Masquerading as a crime drama focusing on a homicide investigation, it was really a deep character study that dealt with masculinity and nihilism, dabbled in the occult, and jumped between timelines with aplomb. Such was the fanfare and mystery around the show, the The King in Yellow €“ a book published in 1895, and referenced in the show €“ went into the top ten of Amazon€™s bestseller list as viewers looked for any clues they could find. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both received Emmy nominations for their roles as Rust Cohle and Marty Hart respectively, with McConaughey€™s enigmatic and philosophising Cohle gaining particular attention and praise. All eight episodes were tightly-written and filled with eminently quotable dialogue by Nic Pizzolatto, and all were directed by Cary Fukunaga in a pretty epic feat of direction, giving the show a distinct look that peaked at the end of episode 4, Who Goes There?, with an incredible unbroken six-minute tracking sequence. Of course, as soon as the credits rolled on the season finale, the question was of what comes next. Pizzolatto had already confirmed that True Detective was an anthology series, so we knew that we wouldn€™t be seeing Cohle and Hart again. Aside from that, he was giving little away, although of course there was a host of online speculation, including the #TrueDetectiveSeason2 trending topic on Twitter. As the months have gone on and the premiere of season 2 has edged nearer, more and more details have slowly started to be revealed. With just under a month until it airs, here€™s everything we know about True Detective€™s second outing€
