10 AEW Wrestlers To Jump Ship RIGHT NOW
Tear up that contract right now! These wrestlers need WWE more than AEW.
It's important to note something straight away: This is a fantasy piece. Wrestlers are the ones in control of their own careers, and they're fully entitled to work anywhere they please. A few are also locked in to longer-term contracts. Having AEW as a viable, money-making option outside WWE is a lovely luxury for today's pros, and there's no denying that.
Now for another truth: Tony Khan doesn't have a clue what to do creatively with many on this list.
A quick glance at the scene on Dynamite, Collision and Rampage reveals that. The AEW boss seemingly refuses to delegate, and that means he's stretched way too thin with too many to satisfy. Besides, Khan's preference is to book "dream matches" over long-term stories; he has written some lengthier narratives, but they're a little too few and far between, and his erratic style leaves so many wrestlers with nothing to do.
Perhaps the most alarming thing here is that several included are on TV weekly. Things are stale though, and change is needed. Good on these workers if they're happy, but they've got more potential than AEW's current approach suggests.
Time to jump ship? You bet.
10. Queen Aminata
AEW ran a few vignettes briefly telling Queen Aminata's story on Rampage earlier this year. Typically for Tony Khan's promotion, the company quickly lost interest and dropped the whole thing without cause. That's a source of frustration for fans who want to invest in characters week-on-week but are rarely given any good reason to do so.
Aminata's story is a cool one, and it deserves to be told properly. She emigrated to the United States from Ghana in 2013 to chase her dreams of becoming a pro wrestler. Before that, Aminata lived in France and studied to become a lawyer. She's a real go-getter who backed herself from a young age then.
WWE would do a better job telling that tale.
Triple H's team would let the story breathe without rushing through a few quick TV matches and moving onto the next flavour of the month like Khan does. Aminata has been knocking around AEW's scene since 2021, and this question is worth asking. Exactly when is she going to be handed a proper, consistent platform?
