10 Best African American Wrestlers In Wrestling History

In honor of Black History month, a look at the competitors that paved the way.

The sport of professional wrestling is a very unique genre and throughout the years, many social events were used for characters, angles, etc. However, the industry has also been an arena where great performers, regardless of race, religion, or background; could showcase their skills, thrilling audiences around the globe in the process. From a business side, pro wrestling isn't about black or white, but about green and if a performer could draw money, it didn't matter what color or background they had. For the fans, pro wrestling allowed them to see that color doesn't matter and they could support any star they wanted to when they walked into an arena. The performers on this list redefined the perception of black pro wrestlers and paved the way for American Africans that followed them. If anything, pro wrestling has shown over the years that anyone from any background can be successful. The accomplishments of these competitors aren't just black history, it's pro wrestling history that entertained fans of all backgrounds. Some of these competitors had to endure racists, but they had the courage to continue and in the process helped others. This list is to honor the African Americans that made history for the pro wrestling industry.
