10 Best African American Wrestlers In Wrestling History
10. Shelton Benjamin
Perhaps the best pure athlete to step into a WWE ring, Shelton Benjamin became involved in pro wrestling after his college room mate, Brock Lesnar was offered a WWE deal and insisted that Shelton be signed as well. Benjamin might have been signed as a way to lure Lesnar to the pro wrestling genre, but Shelton, who was an accomplished amateur wrestler quickly excelled in the pro wrestling. Shelton debuted for the WWE along side Charlie Hass as Team Angle in 2002 and they became a staple of the WWE tag team division. As his career progressed, Benjamin became known for spectacular displays of athleticism and there were many highlight reel moments during his WWE run. Despite winning the IC and US titles during his career, Shelton just didn't seem to have the mic skills to get to the main event level in the WWE. However, he continued to thrill audiences with his skills until he was released in 2010. Shelton currently wrestles for New Japan and Pro Wrestling NOAH, where he's a featured star for many events.
