WWE: 10 Best Pre-Match Promos Ever

7. Triple H Vs Randy Orton At Wrestlemania 25

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaqDNgwTeF4 By 2009, Randy Orton had fully shed his rookie beginnings and entered into his incarnation as "The Viper", and became a top heel through his feud with Triple H. It's somewhat unique, in that Randy's motivations as a heel stem from a storyline that occurred when Triple H was a heel and he was a babyface. But at least the storyline had character motivations that make sense, which is a lot more than we usually get. Where this promo excels is with it's use of changing moods. When it starts with Randy explaining his reasons for hating Triple H, its set to soft, reflective music as the camera blurs at the edges of the screen, with increasing percussion as it continues. Then when he targets the McMahons, we see an altogether different side of Orton, as he brutally kicks people in the head while grimacing and drooling, accompanied all the time by sounds of guns cocking, static bursts and electronic feedback. As the story progresses, the music gets more orchestral with Triple H's retaliation, but when he's handcuffed and Stephanie comes to the ring, the music changes once again to suspenseful brass and strings, with the sound of a sinister music box giving us insight into Orton's twisted world. It does an excellent job of selling him as somebody who is warped, unhinged and dangerous. Finally, we get the all out final brawl before the match to the tune of AC/DC's "War Machine" (the soundtrack of choice for brawling) and we just KNOW that this is going to be a fight. This feud is not remembered fondly, perhaps unfairly given the storyline going into it. The match itself was a massive disappointment, with a promo setting us up for a brutal, hungry-for-blood street fight and then crippling its potential with a stupid stipulation. But whatever the match might have been, it had an excellent hype video
