8. CM Punk Vs John Cena At Money In The Bank 2011
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaMHbrEfUc4 This match took place right at the beginning of what would become known as "The Summer Of Punk" in WWE, and was one of the most hotly anticipated main events in a long time. Punk had begun his tirade against McMahon and the WWE machine, shattering the fourth wall and becoming the saviour of legions of disillusioned fans. It was a blisteringly hot angle and the match itself would win a 5 Star Rating from Dave Meltzer and would be award Match Of The Year. The video opens with CM Punk's symbol, evoking WCW's popular "the following has been paid for..." device used by the NWO. We hear Punk's voice repeated through rising static and white noise, before we see his face and hear the phrase "Do I have everybody's attention now?", which is repeated numerous times throughout. As the video recounts the events leading up to MITB through Punk's words, words are constantly flashing onscreen to accompany his viewpoints towards Vince McMahon (DICTATOR) John Cena (SYCOPHANT) and himself (SILENCED). We get the impression that the messianic Punk is preaching his views through some sort of pirate broadcasting, as his voice distorts and stutters. When Cena confronts Punk, we seem him through Punk's cynical eyes, as the glorious champion raising his belts while his fans cheer and confetti rains down. The clip closes with him ripping up his contract and mocking Cena's "you can't see me" as we hear his question one more time. This isn't great as a feud between two guys, the actual issues between Punk and Cena come across as kind of stupid ("You have become the New York Yankees!!" "Um..... good burn, I guess?") but what this does is tell the excellent story of Punk raging against The Machine. It's also an excellent example of breaking the fourth wall in storytelling, which some people just cannot get the hang of. Like Vince Russo, for instance... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cZtuwjdPJU
