Whilst they may be firmly allied nowadays, Roddy Strong and The Undisputed Era didn't always get along.

Following their arrival at TakeOver: Brooklyn III, the original Era lineup of Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly set their sights on a fourth member - the then-babyface Strong.

Despite teasing that he would join the faction, Strong initially resisted, joining forces with then-Tag Team champions, Author of Pain, to battle The Era in a triple threat WarGames match alongside Sanity.

This all built to NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, where Roddy and his impromptu partner, Pete Dunne, faced The Undisputed Era and AOP in a match for both the NXT Tag Team Championships and the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic trophy.

It was during this match that this feud came to an end, when Strong turned on Dunne to give The Era the victory, officially joining the group, turning heel and beginning his most successful run in NXT to date.

Whilst Strong never had a proper one-on-one match with Adam Cole (which would have made excellent sense in this storyline), this feud was still incredibly well-done. NXT played off of Strong's existing connections with The Era, as well as his out-of-luck character at the time.

Roddy's heel turn was executed to perfection. It was the perfect end to his rivalry with Cole, Fish and O'Reilly and the catalyst for a whole new chapter in The Era's WWE story.
