10 Best Rivalries In NXT History
8. Aleister Black Vs The Velveteen Dream
Any rivalry that makes top stars out of both participants has to be good.
In The Dream's first big storyline in NXT, he began stalking the silent killer, Black, obsessed with making The Dutch Destroyer say his name.
Dream proceeded to play a series of mind games with Black in the weeks building up to TakeOver: WarGames, where the two had an outstanding match. Despite Dream being slightly green between the ropes, he still put in an excellent performance that was driven by the excellent story these two men were telling.
Black ultimately won the match, but said Dream's name anyway, reversing his mind games and twisting the knife further into his defeated opponent.
Whilst this rivalry didn't last very long, it didn't need to, as everything was wrapped up nicely in one match. This feud helped further elevate Black, who was already on the up-and-up in NXT, but it made a star out of The Dream, who has gone onto become one of NXT's most popular performers.
A great example of how to get someone over in defeat and that a good rivalry doesn't have to be a long one, Dream vs Black will go down in NXT history as one of the defining feuds of 2017.
