Love him or hate him, Roman Reigns has been the top dog in WWE for quite some time. When The Shield dissolved in 2014, it was blatantly obvious at that point that he was the chosen one of the trio. Roman was then inserted into as many marquee spots on as many major cards as possible, against some of the biggest names in the business. The end result was a plethora of great matches.

Reigns has stepped into the ring with a who's who of main event talent including Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, A.J. Styles, and Daniel Bryan. Detractors can claim that some of his best work was mostly due to the elite talent he's positioned opposite, and that's not an unfair argument, but surely most viewers can see that he brings real value to the wrestling ring, right? Right?

Even if you're still one of those people that refuse to give The Guy any credit, he's still been in many contests that have received high praise from the wrestling community.

Before diving in, it's best to point out that this is mostly a collection of Roman's best singles matches. A few Triple Threats made the cut, but no Shield 6-Man's or Royal Rumbles or anything else of that sort were included.

10. Vs. AJ Styles - Payback 2016

One month after the debacle that was the Triple H vs. Roman Reigns WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match at WrestleMania 32, a more crowd-pleasing challenger entered the title scene. AJ Styles won a Fatal 4-Way Match a few weeks prior to earn this title bid against Roman, which proved to be the first of two of his best title defenses.

There's so much to love about when these two step inside of the ring together. It helped that AJ bumped with no regard whatsoever to his own well-being on several occasions, such as when he performed a springboard 450 out of the ring and through an announce table. Even Roman got a mild case of the flippies when he performed a running dive out of the ring onto a crowd of interfering wrestlers.

Due to an extreme case of overbooking, this match almost didn't make the cut. There were two McMahon-instigated match restarts as well as a Boot of Doom by Gallows & Anderson after this match was changed to a No Countout and then a No DQ contest. The shenanigans did momentarily derail what felt like it should've been a match of the year contender. Thankfully, Roman and AJ would get another chance to prove what they can truly do together at Extreme Rules 2016, just a few weeks afterward.
