10 Best Wrestling Documentaries Ever

9. Warrior: The Ultimate Legend

Warrior: The Ultimate Legend was WWE's second attempt at a documentary on James Hellwig. The first, released in 2005 - and unflatteringly titled "The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior" - was an unmitigated failure (not least of all because it attracted a lawsuit from its subject matter).

This one - right around the time Warrior patched things up with his former employers and, tragically, his abrupt passing soon after - offered an altogether more balanced look at the eventful life of one of the industry's biggest ever stars, at times going behind his usually impenetrable mask.

And that's what makes this documentary such an important one for wrestling fans of a certain age: it really humanises Warrior by showing him at his most vulnerable, as he looks back - largely uncensored - at a career which came to such a grinding halt in the early 1990s.

Yes, it was a money grab, but there is a sincerity about the film too, and his unfortunate passing three years ago brings into focus its significance in the sometimes forgetful world of mainstream professional wrestling.
