It's not often that WWE will present a compelling three-way feud as their top-liner. Triple threat matches are hard to do and often turn out a little convoluted. WWE performers, particularly main event guys, have historically been wary of them, instead preferring to compete in singles and tag matches. It's a lot harder to get lost that way.

WWE decided to go with a three-man main event at Vengeance 2002, pitting three of their absolute biggest stars against one another. The Rock, Kurt Angle and The Undertaker did battle over The Undertaker's WWE Undisputed Title, a belt he had won in a comical match against Hulk Hogan just two months earlier at Judgement Day.

His previous PPV defense, against Triple H at King of the Ring, hadn't exactly been a barnstormer (to put it mildly) and there was a fear that the presence of the Deadman, who wasn't enjoying a particularly good path between the ropes, would hamper the match, bringing down the People's Champion and the Olympic Hero to his lower level.

In a pleasant surprise, Undi' turned up and put in a hell of a performance, keeping up with his more athletic and less weather-beaten opponents every step of the way. Recapping all of the false finishes (and there were many) would be futile here, so I'll just add that this was a very exciting match that kept fans guessing and on the edge of their seats.

The layout and execution of the closing stages was masterful and the result, a WWE Title win for Rocky, was the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake. Great stuff.
