10 Greatest WWE Referees Ever

4. Mike Chioda

As a young man, Mike Chioda lived close to Gino "Gorilla Monsoon" Marella and his son, Joey, who helped him break into the wrestling business. He joined WWF as a referee in 1989, and his very-80s mullet can be seen officiating during the 1989 Survivor Series. He took a year's hiatus after WrestleMania 7, but returned in 1992, and hasn't left since. Chioda's most notable match would be: the 1-2-3 Kid's victory over Razor Ramon on Raw in 1993; the WWF Championship match-up of Shawn Michaels vs. Steve Austin at WrestleMania 14; The Rock vs. Hollywood Hogan at WrestleMania 18; and the Brock Lesnar/Big Show match from Smackdown that saw a superplex destroy the ring. In 2002, he became the senior referee for Smackdown, and was appointed Raw's head referee in 2005. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBkhU4Qwg0A Chioda also has another accolade to add to his name; on August 15, 2011, it was announced that he would be suspended for 30 days for a violation of the WWE Wellness Policy, making him the first referee to be suspended since the company began publically announcing their suspension in late 2007. He returned in September of that year, and has remained the senior referee for the WWE ever since.
