10 Greatest WWE World Title Storylines In WrestleMania History

10. Shawn Michaels Vows Not To Double-Cross John Cena (2007)

The 'tag team partners that hate each other' story was beaten into dust during the halcyonic Attitude Era, but was resurrected well for the WrestleMania 23 main event. John Cena and Shawn Michaels won the World Tag Team titles from Edge and Randy Orton on the January 29, 2007 episode of Raw. One week later, Michaels beat both former champions in a triple threat match to earn a shot at Cena's WWE Championship at WrestleMania. Later in February, Orton warned Cena that Michaels had a history of turning on partners, including Marty Jannetty, Kevin Nash, and even Hulk Hogan. Michaels plainly assured Cena that he had his back until WrestleMania. Despite palpable tension, Michaels kept his word, until six days before the event. That's when Michaels superkicked Cena during a tag match against Undertaker and Batista to close out the go-home Raw. The will-he-or-won't-he paranoia put this story a cut above most fare from the time.
