Seth Rollins was in the midst of a career year in 2015, proving with every passing week that he was a performer capable of carrying WWE on his shoulders. He was exactly what he had claimed to be: The Future.

All of it: the stardom, the string of successful championship defences and the status as the villain around whom WWE revolved was gone, in an instant.

During a match in Dublin, Ireland, Rollins executed a sunset flip powerbomb from the top rope to Kane. As he did so, he landed awkwardly on the inset of his foot, driving the weight down onto his right leg. He instantaneously tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus, ending his run atop the promotion and forcing him to endure major surgery and months of agonising rehabilitation.

In 2016, WWE produced a documentary entitled Seth Rollins: Redesign, Rebuild, Reclaim. The film gave fans a close look at everything Rollins had to endure to get back to the squared circle, including the heartbreak of missing out on WrestleMania.

Having carried the promotion on his back, the one competitor featured in every major, high-profile storyline and match throughout 2015 was left on the outside looking in. His hard work and dedication went unrewarded, the WrestleMania moment he sought ripped from him in the most painful way imaginable.

Had he been able to compete that year, a showdown with Triple H almost certainly would have been on the cards.

Instead, fans will have to wait until April 2 in Orlando to see that encounter play out before millions on the WWE Network.
