Lita revolutionised women's wrestling in 2000, replicating the high-flying, death-defying manoeuvres executed on a weekly basis by the men she shared the screen with. Her alternative style and ability to soar through the air made her the super cool chick female fans wanted to be and male fans wanted to hang out with.

In 2002, her unexpected stardom brought with it an opportunity to appear on Fox's Dark Angel, starring Jessica Alba. Unfortunately, it was on the set of that television production that her career was altered forever.

Doing her own stunts, she executed a hurricanrana - but the woman she was working with did not catch her properly, dropping her on her head. A CAT scan was performed, revealing three fractures in her vertebrae. Fusion surgery was performed and Lita sat on the sidelines for well over a year.

In her absence, Trish Stratus became the lead babyface in the women's division. Her rivalries with Jazz, Victoria and Molly Holly defined the golden age of women's wrestling. When Lita finally returned, it was clear that she was not the same performer she was prior to the injury.

She still performed the vaunted moonsault but gone were the days of unnecessary high risk spots. She used her size and strength against Trish, Molly, Jazz, Gail Kim and Mickie James, something fans were not accustomed to.

Still beloved, she captured the Women's Championship on three more occasions - but there was no denying the fact that the injury she suffered not only forced her to take a backseat to Trish but, also, robbed her of her uniqueness.
