In promoting the history-making nature of the Women's Royal Rumble, WWE may have accidentally undermined the point of the contest. The Royal Rumble carries gravitas due to the outcome rather than the concept, but the company have obsessed over their own progressiveness to such a degree that the message has been completely lost.

Current SmackDown Live! Women's Champion Charlotte confirmed as much when she noted her mixed feelings about not getting to compete in the contest. Whether intended or not, it inferred that a participation medal for the 30-woman war was of greater significance than the strap she fought hard to attain for much of 2017. If that's how she genuinely feels, why not take it off her just before? Carmella is ready and waiting if 'The Nature Girl' joins her father for a special appearance.

Alexa Bliss seems less a*sed about entering, thankfully. Yet on the Raw side, a win for anybody other than Asuka would risk damaging the thin ice they're perpetually walking with the 'Empress Of Tomorrow'. She claimed a clean fall over 'Little Miss Bliss' a fortnight ago - why not repeat the trick and remove her from the battle royal completely? No matter if it's a celebrity like Ronda Rousey, a legend like Lita or even a surprise that sneaks in the middle of the two.
