When performed precisely, the GTS is a thoroughly anguishing finishing move to watch. The fireman's carry set-up is a nice, anticipatory nod to the audience, and the drop straight down coupled with the elevated knee to the face makes for a truly beautiful bit of fleshy carnage.

And that's exactly why CM Punk decided to borrow the move from Japanese wrestling superstar KENTA, currently plying his trade in NXT as Hideo Itami.

Prior to joining the ECW brand of WWE in 2006, Punk finished off his opponents in Ring of Honor by delivering the Pepsi Plunge or locking them up in the Anaconda Vise - another move which he popularized but didn't invent.

But he'll always be known more for the GTS, because...JUST LOOK AT IT. IT'S AWESOME.

Believe it or not, though, KENTA's version is even more incredible. Rather than setting his opponents up in the traditional fireman's carry, he actually puts them in the Torture Rack first, which means he flips them a full 180 degrees as*-over-tea kettle before knocking their lights out with his knee.

So it turns out not all innovations actually make things better.
