Cracking The Foundation!

It doesn't exactly have the same ring to it as "The Mega Powers Explode!", but the separation and long-awaited showdown of the original Hart Foundation never came to be, despite a very big tease at SummerSlam '94.

WWE spent the Summer of 1994 building up the family feud storyline of the Hart family with the culmination expected to come inside a steel cage (to keep the family members out) when Owen challenged Bret for the WWE title at SummerSlam.

The storyline revealed that The Anvil was the one planting the seeds of jealousy into the mind of the younger Hart brother. So when the conclusion of the steel cage match saw Bret defeat Owen only to be locked back into the cage afterwards by Jim Neidhart, we seemed headed for a Hart Foundation face-off.

Instead, WWE elevated Bob Backlund into the main event as Bret's next challenger, with Owen as his cornerman, and The Anvil tussled in the mid-card, completely separated from Bret.

Like several other feuds on this list, Bret would battle Jim in the house show circuit and in tag matches with Davey Boy Smith as Bret's partner, but the organic program between the former Tag Team Champions is something that was sorely missing from 1994.
